Triumph on the Court: Mekhi Dedrick's Inspiring Journey

Celebrate success with Mekhi Dedrick, who, after almost giving up on his college basketball career, recently secured a triumphant victory at Richard Bland College in South Prince George, VA. With an impressive stat line of 8 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, and 5 steals, Mekhi's story is a testament to resilience and the transformative impact of MissionSAFE. Away from Boston, he found a new outlook on life, supported by the dedicated Youth Engagement Specialists: Coach Nugget, Ryann Harrell, Roddy Lugay, and the rest of the MissionSAFE team.

Liliano, age 20

Today, MissionSAFE spotlights Liliano Rosa, shown here at his 2022 graduation from Berwick Academy in Maine. In 2018, through Boston’s Beacon Academy, Liliano’s hard work and determination earned him an opportunity to attend Berwick. Liliano adds that being kind is crucial to him, and for that he credits his family and close friends. He calls Nugget, MIssionSAFE’s Athletics Coordinator, not just a coach, but also a role model, saying, “When I had to make tough decisions, such as choosing the right school for me, he was there to assist me.” Liliano chose Berwick because it offered a good balance between academics and basketball; his hard work there has now earned him a full scholarship to Lehigh University. Congratulations, Liliano!
