MissionSAFE deliberately seeks out and offers unconditional, structured relational support
to the most at-risk adolescents and young adults whose exposure to complex, ongoing trauma has
left them vulnerable to apathy, hopelessness, school failure and dropping out, unwillingness
to engage, violence, gang and court involvement, substance abuse and mental health issues.
MissionSAFE works with the whole child, creating safe and enriched spaces in every aspect
of these young peoples' lives - psychological, physical, social, educational, and spiritual -
where they are nurtured, challenged and encouraged to see and to reach for the horizons of their
full and unique potential.
MissionSAFE works with the whole child in the context of their peers and the larger community.
MissionSAFE is committed to empowering these youth to:
- build on their inherent strengths, resources and assets
- develop the concrete skills and confidence they need to succeed
- discover themselves and their self worth though meaningful community service and civic engagement
- strengthen their relational, social, emotional, communication, violence prevention, and decision-making skills
- discuss conflicting values and to decide their own, opening themselves to a value of compassion and empathy
- develop positive relationships with their peers and adults
- experience successes, set positive goals for their future, and build a lifelong vision of opportunity
- become effective and imaginative problem solvers with the skills to proactively seek solutions and to constructively deal with challenges
- expand their capacity to enjoy life and know happiness
- become resilient, ethical, visionary and productive citizen/leaders in a highly complex 21st century world.
